Sunset Waters

Guest comments

Here are a few thoughts from some of the guests who have stayed at Sunset Waters.

Looking for a relaxing break away
We came across the Island of Macleay
Mum, Dad and three daughters
Discovered a place called "Sunset Waters"

Much information was sent by Deb
Along with all that's on the web
Ensuring our safe and easy arrival
We soon began our week's "revival"

Meeting John and Elaine- the neighbours
We loved how welcome they did make us.
We simply adored the home and the view
Not to mention John's home brew!

They shared some island hospitality
Also kindly let us use their jetty.
Having the boat on Sunset's mooring
Ensured our week was never boring!

Seven days of relaxing and reading
Is really what we all were needing.
And if there's one thing that it's taught us...
We WILL return to "Sunset Waters"! Sept 2010Sarah, Andrew & family, Paradise Point, Qld

Delightful house, so well equipped with fantastic views from the moment we opened the door. We had a peaceful and very relaxing weekend on our first visit to Macleay Island. We hope to be back for more, as it's a truly wonderful place to stay. Aug 2010Kerry & family, Jimboomba, Qld

We had a fabulous time in your gorgeous house, celebrating our annual Xmas in July. The view is wonderful, encouraging you relax & chill out. You have a great collection of DVDs which we took advantage of over the weekend. Our son was able to throw in a fishing line and it was great he didn't have to leave the property to do so, with John your neighbour also kind enough to let him tee off on the '19th hole'. We really enjoyed the late checkout on Sunday as we could relax on the deck with a BBQ lunch, before packing up and heading back home. Thanks again, your service was great. We would love to come back again. July 2010Toni, family & friends, Bracken Ridge, Qld

Just to let you know that Sunset Waters was everything I hoped it would be. The house was very comfortable and just beautiful!!! The main bedroom upstairs was my dream bedroom. Everything we needed for our week away was waiting for us; it was wonderful to not have to worry about a thing. The views—what can I say except, truly beautiful! It was a pleasure to cook and look outside to the bay. My kids had a really great time, fishing, playing board games, watching DVDs & riding the bikes. We island hopped to other islands, which was fun. Housekeepers Elaine & John are lovely, always there to help when needed, John even giving the kids some bait to fish with. All in all our holiday at Sunset Waters was everything I hoped and wanted. I am glad I went with my "gut feeling" when first looking at your website—I definitely made the right decision on spending our break on Macleay Island, and hope to head back one day. Thank you Deb & Paul for all your help in planning this trip and letting us share your wonderful place of peace and quiet... we look forward to returning for another holiday. June 2010Melissa & family, Sunday Creek, Vic

What a lovely house! What a brilliant view! What a great place for our headquarters while getting a feel for all the islands with a view to moving here. We all wish our stay was longer. May 2010Emma & Don, UK: their family, Bribie Island, Qld

What a fabulous place Sunset Waters is. The house is great and the views are spectacular as the hundreds of photos we took can testify. We used the fishing gear, the bikes and the board games- you have catered for everyone with your added extras. What a fantastic break away, we will recommend your place to our friends and hope to be back. Thanks again. Apr 2010David, Sandra & family, Glenbrook, NSW

I just want to say how much we enjoyed our stay at Sunset Waters. It is a beautiful place and was very relaxing. Sitting on the deck watching the silent barges cruise by... the bright lights of the Gold Coast off to the left, lapping water on the shore and birdlife everywhere... wow! It doesn't get much better than this. We loved the bedroom upstairs, such a stunning sight to wake up to. We would love to return one day either on our own or when our kids are older. March 2010Christine, Adelaide, SA

Just what we needed—a little touch of paradise! Jan 2010Vanessa & Matt, Yamanto, Qld

A huge thank you, for letting us share your beautiful paradise "Sunset Waters". In a crazy hectic world it was great to take some time out, enjoy the amazing views and get back in touch with the simple pleasures on Macleay Island. Lazy mornings, long lunches, pre-dinner drinks & amp;nibbles and leisurely dinners were all great and it was a great place to have some much precious quality family time with our three sons.

The kids have explored every nook and cranny of Macleay Island by pushbike and we were even lucky enough to catch a monster mud crab and some fish from the jetty—however we fed more than we caught—just 1 bream large enough to keep. We also played golf, canoed in Morton Bay, swam at Dalpura Beach, enjoyed island hopping and even found a cricket ground and practice nets for my cricket die hard son on nearby Russell Island.

It really was a pleasure to take the time to enjoy the simple things in life—beautiful scenery, gorgeous sea turtles and abundant butterflies & birds.

The house was perfect for our family of 5 and the kids were very impressed with the board games and DVD's (even practised some spelling skills by getting hooked on Scrabble). We have stayed in many holiday houses but Sunset Waters is more like a home away from home. The views from the house are firmly etched in my memory until our next visit and we have taken some lovely photos of the ever-changing scenery that unfolded right in front of our eyes—the clear still mornings with beautiful clear waters, the bird songs of so many varied & friendly birds, (the kookaburra's are particularly inquisitive)the passing yachts & boats, the gorgeous lights of Redland Bay at night and who could forget the magnificent sunsets which seemed different every time we saw them.

The decor and furnishings in your house also add to the relaxed feel, the kitchen had everything we could possibly need. However, my favourite meals were the BBQ's enjoyed with a beer and a wine or two! Thanks also for the recommendations regarding dinner options—we really thoroughly enjoyed the Blue Parrot and the Pizza's from the local pizza shop were also yummy.

After staying at Sunset Waters for 2 weeks, we have all come back to work and school feeling very rejuvenated and my 4 year old son was so taken with the sea turtles & crabs that he chose this as his news item for his first day of Prep School.

A special note about your wonderful neighbours—the caretakers of Sunset Waters. Elaine & John are amazing hosts and could not have been more helpful—we will miss their conversations, home brew beers and nibbles, along with their generosity. John organised golf for us and even gave the boys some clubs to use. However, one of the unexpected highlights was a great boat trip courtesy of John where he played tour guide and took us around Russell Island- we got to see some incredible yachts.

Thanks Deb for all your helpful communication and the extra special touches; the champagne was enjoyed overlooking the bay from the banana lounges, and I even managed to read 5 books—total bliss! We will definitely be back. The kids say it is their best holiday yet and we agree with them!!! Jan 2010Lisa, Scott & family, Bathurst, NSW

We had a really marvellous time at Sunset Waters. I just want to thank you for having such a beautiful and magical home, the view, the trees, the water, the tranquility and the birds. It is the first time in ages I have been away and relaxed so quickly and completely—simply loved every minute, we will be back! Thanks for sharing your piece of paradise! Nov 2009Kerry & friends, Yeronga, Qld

A wonderful location to rest, read, contemplate and sleep in! The extra touches (bikes, fishing rods etc) are greatly appreciated. We really enjoyed our stay Deb. Oct 2009Robyn & Stephen, Woodford, Qld

Deb & Paul... Our jaws hit the floor the moment we walked through the door! Nothing (not even your website photos) could have prepared us for the drop-dead beauty of this place! Your decision to have this house built—and share it with others—was a really momentous one. Thank you so much. Elaine & John... Thank you for your hospitality and sharing your local knowledge with us! You have both made our stay so memorable. Sept 2009Janice & Jon, Singapore

"A jewel in our midst" is how I would describe this beautiful place. We had a lovely time—the house is stunning and the position is amazing. We even got to see the dolphins meandering past. Awesome all round. Aug 2009Karen, Bob & Theresa, Caboolture, Qld

Our 4th stay... once again, we have had a wonderful experience—beautiful sunsets, waters that were millpond calm allowing us to watch dolphins go past, kookaburras in the tress—just paradise. Many thanks for letting us share this place we all love so much. My dad joined us this time, he agrees, it's so relaxing. We were lucky enough to catch some beautiful eating fish, which we BBQ'd and ate on the deck. Elaine & John are truly great neighbours, always so helpful. We will be back. Aug 2009Donetta, Paul & family, Ferny Grove, Qld

A weekend of relaxation, shared laughter, great ambience, views and attention to every detail. A sheer joy to be here. May 2009Chris, Reid & friends, Westlake, Qld

We are home, after a really wonderful weekend at Sunset Waters. The description of this holiday house on the internet didn't prepare us for the joy of sitting on the front patio until after midnight on the Saturday night, enjoying the view of the lights across Moreton Bay etc, in barmy weather. Then the fantastic views we woke up to—breathtaking! The house itself was a delight and the owners have catered for every possible thing a tourist/holiday maker could ask for, and then some. The only thing we missed out on was the Sunsets, due to rainy weather on the nights we stayed—not to worry; we will see them next time! We will most certainly be back! The hire car on Macleay worked out great & it was all we needed for the few days we stayed—and the Blue Parrot must have been sick of us by the time we left, great food & service! Thank you for sharing your home with us, we will be back! May 2009Sue, Warburton, VIC

This is truly a piece of paradise! We have felt incredibly privileged to be able to enjoy your "sanctuary" — what an unforgettable weekend of rest, relaxation, beauty, peace and comfort! Thank you Elaine & John, you have reminded us what being neighbours is about: friendship, kindness and generosity of spirit. Thanks also John for the boat tour—the unexpected icing on the cake of a most perfect weekend. Deb & Paul, thanks for allowing us to share this treasure, we'll be back. March 2009Romana & Rob, Mosman, NSW

Just as tranquil, just as relaxing as each visit before—this is our 3rd stay at Sunset Waters. It is with regret we pack our bags to prepare for the journey home to reality—but know that we will return again. Feb 2009Sue & Andrew, Greenwood, Perth WA

Sunset Waters was everything we had hoped for—peaceful, comfortable and in a wonderful position with beautiful views. For the 1st week we hardly moved from the house but then we discovered the friendly island people—smiling, helpful and friendly, with time for a chat. This is how life should be!! Wish we could stay forever! Jan 2009Jane & Barry, Thailand

White yacht bobbing, just outside the door.
Here for 7 nights, could do with some more.
Rain on the water, what a beautiful sound.
Last day here, now are homeward bound.
Had a great stay, the house is a treat.
Friendly neighbours around, as we walked down the street.
Sea eagles cruise by on fresh morning breeze.
After a couple of days, we feel much more at ease.
Enjoyed it so much, we must come again.
Give special thanks to neighbours, John & Elaine. Dec 2008Liz & Rob, Hannam Vale, NSW

We recently returned from our holiday at Sunset Waters. What a magnificent home! We went for a relaxing holiday and that's exactly what we did! The house is beautifully furnished and positioned overlooking the bay islands & mainland. The large decks on both levels make it seem as though the views go on forever—many an afternoon was spent on the lower deck with the ladies having a wine while the boys cooked the freshly caught fish and crabs. What more could you want? We will definitely be back! Oct 2008Julianne & friends, Aspley QLD

Thank you for providing the opportunity to spend a tranquil and relaxing week in a beautiful house, in a beautiful location. Sept 2008Liesbeth, Walter & family, Bellbowrie, QLD

Tranquility at its finest! Spectacular view! Many thanks to Elaine & John for their hospitality, friendliness and the golf tips! Aug 2008Kathleen, Bill, Cheryl & Glen, Canberra ACT

Absolutely Magic!! We had a fantastic weekend, love the house, views are amazing. We explored the island, lunched at Pat's Park, had drinks at the bowls club, then a lovely dinner with Pam at The Blue Parrot. Gavin has paddled around the island every day, both training and relaxing at the same time. Thanks Deb & Paul for sharing this beautiful property with us. Ta to Elaine & John for their warm welcome & friendliness. We will take away wonderful memories and we will return ASAP. Thanks again. June 2008Kathy & Gavin, Ferny Hills, QLD

Thanks once again—this is our 2nd stay. We caught more fish than last time, so are looking forward to catching more fish & crabs on our NEXT visit here. We enjoyed the champers—thanks Deb & Paul. June 2008Vicki, David, Natalie & Jordan, Capalaba, QLD

We made it back for our 2nd stay, but not as soon as I had hoped! We had my mum & dad with us this time and they were as delighted with Sunset Waters, as we all are. Thanks again Elaine & John for the local knowledge and help. We had some Brisbane friends come and join us for lunch at The Blue Parrot... I think a "girl's weekend" will be on the agenda very soon!!! June 2008Gill, Peter & family, Brisbane, QLD

Love it... love it... love it once again! This is our third visit. We had a great weekend with friends. We caught a few nice fish, so cooked them on the BBQ and invited John, Elaine & Matthew over for dinner with us. A GREAT evening! Thanks again Deb & Paul, we'll be back again soon. May 2008Donetta & Paul, Ferny Grove, QLD

Shared your beautiful abode with dear friends, with many laughs, stories, good food and loads of fine wine to wash it down—then to meet Elaine & John, capped off a lovely weekend! Relaxing, yet an exhilarating experience... Thank you muchly. We will recommend a similar episode for those we know... Au revoir! May 2008Bryan & Jan (friends of Donetta & Paul) QLD

What a stunning place to spend our honeymoon!! It's been the most relaxing time we could have ever hoped for. The 2 weeks leading up to our wedding was just manic, but within 5 minutes of arriving, we were both in heaven. We don't want to leave—but we will be back soon! Thank you Deb for letting us stay in your "piece of paradise"—we appreciate it so much. Apr 2008Tricia & Mikael, Tanah Merah, QLD

Fantastic!! A lovely place to stay and relax. Thank you Deb for giving our family what they needed—"Family Time" together! Also, many thanks to Elaine & John—they are wonderful people and so helpful. We'll be back. Easter 2008Greg, Rosie & Family, Kellyville NSW

What a lovely place to spend my husband's 60th birthday. Beautiful one day... perfect the next. It has been so enjoyable to holiday in a place that lived up to "what we hoped it would be." In the past we have paid a lot of money for some holiday houses that have let us down badly, but Sunset Waters was absolutely fabulous, the attention to detail and the cleanliness was 1st class! March 2008Kathryn & Eric, Boondall, QLD

Didn't know there was a piece of heaven so close to Brisbane. We had to be patient to see some gorgeous sunsets due to the rain, but enjoyed ourselves anyway reading, playing board games & relaxing. The view is amazing and always changing no matter what the weather. It's a long way from Holland, but hopefully we will be back someday. Jan 2008Lauri & family, The Netherlands

Our second time to Sunset Waters, we have stayed six days. My elderly mother has found it to be a wonderfully relaxing and a very memorable holiday for her. The elements were against us this time, with rain on most days; however it did not spoil our stay. Your home is beautifully presented and has everything you need to make any holiday relaxing. Dec 2007Lorraine, John & Joy, Kawana Island QLD

A fabulous sanctuary... very peaceful and wonderfully grounding. Thank you John & Elaine for adding to our memories, hope to see you again. Thanks Deb & Paul for all the emails and help you gave, you have a lovely holiday home. Many, many thanks... Merry Christmas. Dec 2007Vikki & Bruce, Pimlico QLD

This is truly the place to repair your soul—what a wonderful idyllic haven! Thank you too, Elaine & John for all the help and the loan of the fishing rods—without these, we could not have fed the fish of Macleay Island. Nov 2007Elizabeth & Angela (UK), Julian & Sharon (Sth Africa)

This house & location is amazing! So relaxing and peaceful, we love it. Thanks for sharing it with us. Sept 2007Carolyn & Russell, Toowoomba QLD

Eight days of heaven—I want more (always was greedy!) The view... OMG. My favourite things to do: take a book, some nibbles and a chair down onto the jetty—I even caught a fish! I enjoyed a BBQ on the back deck with a glass of red wine in one hand and the tongs in the other, looking across to the lights on the mainland. Coffee on the upper deck early in the morning, just out of bed, was magic... I can still see it all very clearly now. Aug 2007Lyn, Geebung QLD
